KALAMAZOO, MI- After an incredibly successful 2008 series, the Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour returns this October for its third season.
Modeled after the ghost tours found in big cities all over the country, the Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour provides a historic account of Kalamazoo with a twist – delivering the weird, the haunted, and the historic stories found throughout Kalamazoo. Each night, a ticket is good for a unique walking tour of various historic sites throughout the City of Kalamazoo.
According to Tour President Eric Schmidt, “We’re not your typical ’scary’ Halloween event – we’re focused on telling interesting stories in great locations. The Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour is definitely a nice change of pace from the typical haunted house-style event.”
“This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the odd and unique history that makes Kalamazoo a one-of-a-kind city.”
The tours run on Friday and Saturday nights in October (beginning Friday, October 9). Tours will leave the starting location every 20 minutes, with the last tour leaves approximately 45 minutes before close. Each tour will last 30-45 minutes.
The dates, times and locations are as follows:
Riverside Cemetery
Fri., October 9 and Sat., October 10
6:00 – 8:45 p.m.
Downtown Kalamazoo
Fri., October 16 and Sat., October 17
7:00 – 9:45 p.m.
Mountain Home Cemetery
Fri., October 23 and Sat., October 24
6:00 – 8:45 p.m.
If demand warrants, a seventh date will be added on Friday, October 30; the time and location will be announced a week prior.
Because space is limited, patrons are encouraged to reserve their spot by pre-registering for their preferred date and time at the Tour website, www.ghostsofkalamazoo.com.
Tickets are $7 per night or $18 for three nights. All proceeds from the Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tour will be donated to Warm Kids (www.warmkids.org), a non-profit organization that provides coats, boots, mittens and scarves to underprivileged children in the community.
The tour is not recommended for children under 12, and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
“We’re excited to be bringing this event back for 2009,” Eric Schmidt stated. “The community has supported us really well. We oversold six nights of tours in 2008, raising over $4,300 for Warm Kids.”
“We’re constantly doing our homework and digging for new stories, and we look forward to delivering an even better tour experience for 2009.”
